an issue -- in our future, all those things are designed to make sure the american people, their genius, their grit and determination, is channeled and they have an opportunity to succeed. everybody is getting a fair shot. everybody is getting a fair share -- a fair share. everybody is playing by the same rules. four years ago, i said i am not a perfect man and noo a perfect present. that is probably a promise governor romney things i kept. i also promise i fight every single dayyon behalf of the american people, the middle class, and although striving to get into the middle class, i have kept that promise. if you will vote for me, then i will promise i will fight just as hard in the second term. >> the romney -- governor romney. >> this is an important election and i'm concerned about america. i am concerned about the taking over the last four years.

i know this is bigger than an election about the two of us as indivvduals. -pit is bigger than our respecte parties. it is an election about the course of america. what kknd of america do you want to have for yourself and your children? there are two seven pads we begin speaking about this evening. we will have two more presidential debates and a vice presidential debate. we will talk about those two pads. -- paths. you do not have to just look at our work. you can look at the record. if the president would be reelected, you will see a middle-class squeeze. income going down, and prices going up. in come up p again. if i am president, i will help to create 12 million new jobs in this country with rising incomes. if the president is elected, obamacare will be fully installed.

that will mean a whole different life. many will lose their insurance. if i am elected, we will not have obamacare. we will put in place the kind of principles i put in place in my own state and allow each state to craft their own programs and we will focus. if the president were reelected, you will see a $716 billion cut to medicare. you have 4 million people who lose medicare advantage. you have hospitals and provides no longer accepting medicare. i will restore that $716 billion to meddcare. finally, military. you will see dramatic cuts toward military if the president is reelected. pt is said this will be devastating. i will not cut our commitment to the military. i will keep america strong and get america's middle-class working again. thank you, jim. >> thank you. the next debate will be on

we have been falling the romney campaign. carl, an event like this ends, whoever you were for you believe it did just great. whether you were against, you think did just horribly. >> it will be hard to judge initially. like so many debates, the spot analysis that will happen in the spin room for the next three or four hours, wwat will be all over social media, is likely to evolve over the next few days as people begin to analyze in depth and take a look to the accuracy of the things that were set as well as the demeanor of the candidates. in just about every single answer, mitt romney looked at the prrsident and looked him in the eye and addressed the president directly.+ in most of his answers, president obama spoke to either jim lehrer or the audience. this was, in general, a good

debate. there were some annoyed appearances ffom the president, some inpatient attempts to interrupt the flow of things by mitt romney, but fairly ssall. lots of policy. for reporters and voters who thought a lot of times this campaign has ordered a little bit too on -- to much on the cynical, there was it kind of policy tonight. you heard president obama at one. take the president -- take mitt romney to task. that did not happen until the last half-hour of the debate. for the better part of the first hour, it was mitt romney who was pn offense, challenging the president's record, addressing him directly, accusing the president of misrepresenting mitt romney. toward the end, we heard mitt romney say, you are entitled to your own house and plain, but not your own facts.

there was a fair amount of %+arring back and forth. generally speaking, there demeanor's seemed like, in mitt romney's case, he is prepared to be president, and president obama is struggling with some of the strains of being president with some of a rigid somewhat of a difficult campaign. a difficult campaign. -- with somewhat of a diffi remember when you said men are superior drivers? yeah. yeah. then how'd i get this...

much of the discussion focus on the economy and jobs. >> as you said, the focus clearly on the economy from jobs to taxes to the deficit. mitt romney went on the attack early among other things on what he planned to cut. >> obama care is on my list, apologize mr. president. >> i like -- >> good. i'm sorry, jim, i will stop the subsidy to pbs. i like pbs. i like big bird. i will not keep borrowing money. >> president obama responded by questioning pledge to cut taxes for all and reducing the deficit at the same time. >> math, common sense and our history shows us that's not a recipe for job growth. we've tried this. we've tried both approaches. the approach that governor romney is talking about is the

same sales pitch that's made in 2001-2003. >> the national federation of independent businesseses said your plan will kill 700,000 jobs. i don't want to kill jobs in this environment. >> romney slammed the president for the collapse of sill cylinderra and among things. 46% of america he considered himself -- themselves victims. even president supporters frustrated he didn't go on the owe -- offensive. >> we have crews with both of them. we start with paul chambers, who was with republican viewers. >> watched part of the debate in the cop tra costa county campaign headquarters. people there was very happy. the group watched the first head-to-head debate between president barack obama and his

republican challenger mitt romney. the two battled on domestic issues. many say this is the more important of the three debates, because it gives people it gives him to ship. >> i thought he was very strong. we're all nervous about it. we think it's very important. i think he did well. >> romney had great opening. warm, personal, gave the five point plan. i thought it was good. i thought he had a great sound bite. >> terrific. >> the contra costa republican headquarters will hold three more watch parties. and the two remaining for the president of the united states. that's how things were in the republican side. let's go to the colleague, robert honda live with the democrats watching the debate in san jose. >> there's an upbeat mood here in the democratic headquarters in downtown sap jose. -- san jose.

democrats crowded with the watch party, with items. and many said the perceived winner is the one best expressing the concerns on the middle crash with the best vision of moving the economy forward, especially in taxes, deficit and jobs. party leaders here said president obama did that best. >> he's willing to run on the record as president and on the campaign statements that he's made so far. and i contrast that with governor romney who i think is all over the place. >> what obama, is hold holding a little more water. he's not talking only the foot but the how's and the whys. i think i only hear from romney the what. >> both candidates seemed very prepared. it makes it hard to tell how they went over with undecided voters who may have heard many of the points before. ktvu channel 2 news.

wounded and we do not know that person's condition. a mistrial was declared in the federal cocaine fraud trial of the former crime lab technician. according to the juror, debra madden took cocaine from a lab. the jurors couldn't agree whether placerville proved, hearing of deception. a hearing has beep set, including a possible retrial. >> the oakland police department is under fire for its handling much tomorrow a motion will be filed to request a federal takeover. it comes on the heelings of the federal monitor who question the use of force in some of the shooting. a civil rights attorney says the department has to change. >> we simply can't wait any longer. that's why we're acting now.
